Has spirituality ever seemed so irrelevant? With an economy in the toilet, an overheated environment that would be even more devastating if global warming weren't a fraud, and an election campaign that's increasingly a circus of the bizarre, what place could something like meditation have in solving anything?
Well, it's instant. Close your eyes and it all goes away. Does that sound like the ostrich, sticking his head in the sand to ignore reality? Interestingly, ostriches don't actually do that; it's a myth. In fact, the only animal that does that is us! We're expert at ignoring reality, deluding ourselves with lottery dreams and irrational loyalties to habits that have only produced results we don't like but maybe suddenly, magically, will produce the opposite... we hope.
Spirituality? Meditation? Who has the time? Yet... Close your eyes, breathe deeply, focus a positive thought like, "All is well," and that overwhelming mess vanishes.
John Wayne's characters didn't meditate! They taught us to shoot first and ask questions later. Take charge, take action, do something heroic and save the day. Our personal development gurus do the same, offering us seven steps to this, four keys to that. The problem is, it works! Ask the 1%'ers. They made it, success that is. Oh, then ask them if they're happy. Better yet, ask yourself. How many rich people have you met who seem deeply content? I've met a few generous souls who distribute their wealth for the benefit of many. But I've also met those who are anxious, proving every day that money can't make you happy.
So, what does spirituality have to do with this reality? Not much, because that's not reality, it's a delusion. Consider the tree. There it stands through spring, summer, fall and winter - adjusting, growing, being and... silent. This reality has no answer, no silver bullet, no magic spell to make everything better, because everything... everything just is!
Here is the transformative power of traveling a spiritual path – becoming able to accept everything just exactly as it is. Imagine, if you could focus all the energy you're exerting to fix things into... enjoying them! What might fall away in your life, what might blossom?
Stop. Give up. Abandon your hopes of getting it all together, saving the world and/or yourself. This is it. Step off the wheel of time. This is it. Grab this moment. This is reality.
Now, as that other world spins away on its desperate wheel, feel the peace of this motionless center where Love embraces You, as these words take flight and pour into your opening heart, delivering the fulfillment you've so longed for, in a freely given, timeless, transformative moment that defies description...
