Scientists in Sweden and Italy are excited about seeming proof of a phenomenal new energy source, known as Energy Catalyzers, which are similar to nuclear reactors but do not produce any radioactivity or hazardous waste.
These “E-Cat devices” are being touted as a solution for both our energy needs and climate problems worsened by burning fossil fuels. While this is encouraging and sounds like a positive step (replacing a dangerous energy source with a less hazardous one) it does remind us of our chronic tendency to keep missing the obvious.
Solar energy. The sun is the source of all life on earth, yet we more or less ignore it. The sun can easily provide all the energy humans need just as it already does for every other species. But instead of aggressively advancing solar technologies for harvesting energy, we persist in creating substitute sources.
There’s a lesson here that illuminates how we live our personal lives. Relaxing in this moment, it’s easy to feel the heartbeat in our bodies and acknowledge the miracle that keeps of us breathing. We are not plugged in; we don’t have batteries that rundown or die. We live from the moment of birth to the moment of death, powered by the sun.
Inspired as we may be by news of a safe, alternate energy source, we can also assess our lives and consciously increase our reliance on this most natural energy source of all. It’s more than the sun, it’s the energy of life coming through the sun. We experience it consciously during moments of meditation, presence, and appreciation. Why not cultivate more of these moments and wean ourselves from the dangerous forms of energy we have used to create our lives, like anger and competition?
