“Each of us has an image of what we think we are or what we should be and that image prevents us from seeing ourselves as we actually are.” Krishnamurti
It has been aptly said that there is what is… and then there are the stories we tell about it. What is… is life… in all of its happenings. In essence… life simply happens and we are witnesses of it. An appropriate metaphor is the sun and the clouds. The sun is an eternal witness of the clouds going by. What is… simply is… as it is… within all of its happenings.
But then there are the stories the mind tells about what is happening. With our endless thoughts and definitions about what is happening… we change what is into what isn’t. If we believe our illusory definitions… we consistently experience that which they define… and illusorily suffer in the process.
Again… consider the sun. It doesn’t tell illusory stories about the clouds going by. It rather remains a truthful witness of what is happening. We can thus learn a lot from this sun-clouds metaphor. We can learn to relinquish our illusory stories and simply watch what is happening… and enjoy a more truthful experience of reality.
So let’s make this our focus for the week. Endeavor to remain wakeful and simply watch what is happening… and above all… do not believe the illusory stories your mind tells about it.
