Hatred is self-punishment

Written by Master Charles Cannon

“Hatred is self-punishment.”
 Hosea Ballou

Has it not been aptly said that what we give is what we get?  Does this mean that if we hate someone… they will hate us back?  Perhaps… but not necessarily so.  How else might this principle work?

If you are full of hatred for anyone or anything… you are first and foremost experiencing hatred.  It’s all about you.  Since hatred is a miserable experience… you are creating a miserable experience for yourself by embodying hatred.   You are the one who is suffering.  And you are the cause of your suffering.  It is indeed self-punishment.  Again… what you give is what you get… and it is an immediate pay off.

Why not focus on the opposite?  Why not focus on love?  If you fill yourself with love… then first and foremost you are experiencing love.  Again, it’s all about you.  Since love is a life-affirmative experience… you are creating a life-affirmative experience for yourself by embodying love.  You are the cause of love… you are full of love.  It is self-affirmation.  Again… what you give is what you give… and it’s an immediate pay off.
This week… let us increase our wakefulness of the experience we are choosing to have.  If it is life-negative and fear-based… change it to life-affirmative and love-based.  Be the conscious creator of your experience.  After all… what you give is what you get.
