“If fifty million people say a foolish thing, it is still a foolish thing.”
Thoughts, beliefs and stories… about who we are and what life is… are simply that… thoughts, beliefs and stories. And most of them are not true. They are rather illusions that we believe to be true. Then when we unconsciously believe them to be true… we project them onto our experience of reality… and experience a virtual rather than true reality.
Further… we validate our virtual realities via consensus. If enough other people experience the same virtual reality as we do… we assume that it is true. It matters not if fifty million people experience the same virtual reality. It is still a virtual reality and not true reality. Just because in the majority we believe in certain illusory stories… it does not mean that they are true.
The real question is… who would we be without our stories. What remains when the stories end? If all stories distort our experience of reality… to one degree or another… what would our experience of reality be without any distorting stories? To answer this question… we must empty the mind in meditation. It is an experiential rather than intellectual answer.
This week let us more fully explore the experience of reality beyond our stories in daily meditation. Why not find out for yourself just who you really are and what life is… beyond all stories about it? The journey of truth begins with a single step. It’s called meditation.
