“On the mountain road… the sun arose. Suddenly… the fragrance of the plum flowers.”
~ Basho—Zen Tradition
This is really a Haiku… a short little poetic expression of wakefulness. Basho is most celebrated in this regard. He was a master of wakeful expression.
Wakefulness is the experience of presence within the here and now happening of consciousness. It is being fully present to the totality of momentary consciousness. You are wakeful while walking on the mountain road. You are simultaneously wakeful of the sunrise… and you are simultaneously wakeful of the plum flowers’ fragrance. Such is the wakeful experience of presence.
Apply this to your experience right here and right now. Are you wakeful of yourself as consciousness watching this video? Subject and object… you and me… are the same one. Are you simultaneously wakeful of the space that surrounds you? What sounds and fragrances do you notice? How much of the totality of consciousness happening are you aware of? How present are you? Are you experiencing your presence as blissful consciousness?
This week… let us increase our wakeful focus. Let us endeavor to wakeful of the totality of consciousness happening in each moment. Let us experience presence as blissful consciousness.
