Just in time for the 2013 Grammy Awards, CBS has announced their official policy regarding dress standards and, guess what? Sideboob and buttock crack are out.
"Sideboob" is a new term for a new trend, women wearing dresses that expose the sides of their breasts. Glimpsing this extra few inches of flesh has become popular with men who, one supposes, have daily access to viewing entire breasts.
Why such fascination with a part, if we already know the whole?
Ironically, it's symbolic of our delusional life experience. We may sense the grandness of life, the wholeness of everything, the unity of all people, yet we distract ourselves with obsession over fragments and competition. We flirt with "Maya" all the time, Maya being a term that describes this illusory world.
Anyone who has tried escaping into a cave to meditate or sought out the solitude of celibacy and/or silence knows the futility of denial. Desire is real. It's strong. Seduction trumps moral determination most days of the week and using will power to not see an elephant only makes the elephant bigger. Desire simmers to a boil in a covered pot!
The alternative? Well, humor is a good start. How ridiculous we human beings are! For instance, faced with a long list of life threatening challenges that includes our very survival as a species, we click on-line stories about sideboob! We really do, otherwise Huffington Post wouldn't feature a fresh story on SB almost every day.
So, we can laugh at ourselves. Then we can get honest about what we care about, what we really care about. It's this, isn't it? It's expanding awareness, the experience of learning, growth, personal evolution. And it happens so easily... all you're doing is reading right now, but your perspective is broadening.
The vista opens. Life... this incredible gift! Where will we find ourselves in every next moment? The discovery of emerging reality, now now now... that's something that is fascinating to glimpse!
But what a treasure to make this our priority and feast on it every moment!
