The gateway is the gateway from within the mind to beyond the mind. Actually, there are many gateways, the foremost of which is stillness. The mind has two polarities. It is either noisy or it is quiet, full or empty, active in its thinking or still in its inactivity.
Human beings assume that each moment of life must be filled with content or thought, and we live in a relative reality in which the polarity of noise, of content, dominates our experience. We fill each moment of our experience with thinking. Our minds are busy. They are noisy.
But what if we open to the opposite polarity and allow the polarity of stillness of the mind, of its emptiness and spaciousness, to be simultaneous to its content? In this case emptiness or stillness becomes the gateway to the transcendence of the mind altogether.
To accomplish this, the two polarities must first be held in simultaneity. This means holding and being aware of both noise and stillness, of thought and thoughtlessness. When we do this, progressively the stillness dominates the noise, the emptiness dominates the fullness. And, as we relinquish content and explore emptiness, we create balance.
Within the relative reality that governs all experience, wholeness is proportional to balance. Balance is the gateway, the gateway into the now of true reality beyond all noise of the mind. This is meditative experience, is it not? iiMeditation is a balancing technique. We sit, we go within and focus on the stillness, the emptiness, the spaciousness to increase its dominance and -- through this gateway of balance -- move beyond the mind into the now of true reality.
