There is only one. The question is, does this express experience or is it mere concept? This dialogue could easily express intellectual enlightenment or the experience of oneness. In truth, I don’t talk about what I am not experiencing, which is somewhat challenging for people in today’s world.
Recently I did a radio interview for a book, and the interviewer quoted from the book where I described the experience of oneness — the experience of unified consciousness. He said that what I was describing was not the experience of most human beings. Of course I totally agreed. He then asked if this was my experience. I said to him that, indeed it was, and he asked if I could describe it. So I described my holistic perception of reality, my holistic experience in that moment -- which is the same in this moment -- that everything I perceive is vibrating, fluxing energy. It’s all just an energy field, and there is nothing solid or dense about it. There is nothing that is separate and different from anything else in terms of its essence as one energy.
I described the nature of the energy field that I see as particulate consciousness, the dancing particles of light. I told him it was like a quantum soup in which everyone and everything existed and that no matter what I saw, it was the same energy.
Everything I experience is the same consciousness, the same essence. He then interrupted me and asked if I saw it in the studio microphone that was hanging in front of me. I said yes, I could see it in the microphone as well and, therefore, the microphone and I were one. Then I added, but what is more important is you on the other side of the microphone.
If I look in your eyes, what do I see but the same life, the same conscious existence looking back at me. The same consciousness that empowers you also empowers me and you and all and everything. Of course, I was looking directly in his eyes and he was looking directly in mine, and it sort of stopped the interview until I could distract his gaze so that he could slip back into his conceptual reality and continue the interview.
There were a few seconds in which an expansion of his awareness happened and he experienced a glimpse of true reality, a mini-awakening, a recognition at the soulular level. It is beautiful always to behold that awakening impulse, the spontaneously occurring recognition of one’s true reality. When it occurs, it just stops the mind, even if only for a few seconds. The experience overwhelms one completely.
And so it is in this moment if you are wakeful. In the time you’ve been reading this blog post, there may have been a few seconds in which you experienced a moment of recognition, an experience of truthful self-awareness or holistic self-awareness. It’s all about self-awareness, the measurement of evolution in individuated consciousness. As all great masters tell us, cultivate self-awareness. It’s the only enduring choice we can make.
